Questions about starting driving lessons

When can I start driving lessons?

You can start driving lessons as soon as you are 16.5 years old. It is possible to start the theory earlier so that you can practice your theoretical knowledge. You are welcome with us until the age of 95!

Can I take driving lessons in another language?

At our driving school we offer driving lessons in Dutch and English. If you do not speak Dutch or English, you are responsible for bringing an interpreter to each driving lesson and to your exams. The interpreter must translate during the lessons and exam so that you can understand the instructions and feedback properly. Please note: the additional costs for hiring an interpreter are at your own expense and must be paid by the student.

Do I need a theory certificate to start driving lessons?

No, you do not need a theory certificate to start driving lessons. You can start with practical lessons and learn the theory parallel to the driving lessons, but of course it has several advantages if you already have your theory.

Can I take driving lessons with a medical disability?

Yes, it is possible to take driving lessons with a medical disability, but in some cases you will need a special examination or permission from the CBR before you can take your driving test.

Can I take driving lessons with autism spectrum disorders (ASD)?

At Driving School VAN DER EIJK we understand that everyone has a different way of learning. That is why we offer driving lessons that are specifically tailored to students with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders), such as ADHD , ADD and autism , and students who have to deal with fear of failure . How many driving lessons do I need?

The number of driving lessons varies per person. On average, a student needs a national average of 55 lessons to pass the test in one go (2025), but this depends on your driving skills and experience. Some people need more lessons, others less. The time to get your license depends on your progress and the number of driving lessons you need. It can vary from a few months to a year, depending on your personal situation and when you are ready for the exam.

Do I need a BE driving licence to tow a trailer?

Yes, if the trailer or caravan you want to tow weighs more than 750 kg and the combination of the vehicle and trailer is heavier than 3500 kg, you need a BE driving licence.

How long does the training for the BE driving license take?

At Driving School VAN DER EIJK you can get your BE driving license in one day with our day course . We offer both individual and duo day courses , so you can learn quickly and efficiently.

What will I learn during the BE driving lesson?

During the BE driving lesson you will learn how to drive safely and skillfully with a trailer. You will receive both theory (the basic rules for driving with a trailer) and practical lessons, including manoeuvres, reversing and driving on the motorway.

Can I also get a trailer driving license in English?

Yes, we offer BE driving lessons in English. If you do not speak this language, you can also bring an interpreter, which you arrange yourself, for extra support.

How do I apply for a health declaration?

In order to assess whether it is medically responsible to drive, the CBR has drawn up a number of questions about your health. At the start of your driving training, you will fill in the health declaration. You do this via My CBR .

How do I authorize my driving school?

To authorize our driving school you need a DigiD and our trainer number. Our trainer number is: 6509W6 .

Follow these steps:

Log in to My CBR .

Click on Authorize trainer and then on Authorization for theory exam or Authorization for practical exam (B) or Authorization for TTT (BT) or Authorization for re-exam (BH).

  1. Select the correct category.
  2. Enter the email address, this is your own email address.
  3. Click on the type of exam or test.
  4. Enter the trainer number.
  5. Please read and agree to the terms and conditions.
  6. Click Continue .
  7. Please check the email address and name of the trainer.
  8. Check the details and click Authorize .

Student and driving school will automatically receive a message via email. The authorization is valid for a maximum of 1 year, after which it will be automatically terminated.

What is an interim test (TTT)?

The interim test is a mock exam at the CBR, where an examiner assesses your driving skills. It is not mandatory, but it can be useful to prepare you for the real exam.

How do I prepare for the practical exam?

Make sure you know all the traffic rules, have experience with different driving conditions, and are comfortable with the driving skills you will have to demonstrate during the exam. Of course, your regular driving instructor will help you practice these specific skills.
Please note: To apply for your test or exam, you must be in possession of your theory certificate, have completed the health declaration and have granted all necessary authorizations.

Which car do I take the exam in?

The car you use for the lessons will of course also be taken to the exam. If there is something wrong with the car at the time you take the exam, your instructor will arrange equivalent replacement transportation.

What should I bring to my practical exam or test?

You must bring a valid ID, such as your passport or ID card, your self-reflection form and your theory certificate. Also make sure you are in good health, as the examiner may ask you for a short medical check (such as a face check).

What happens after my driving test?

If you pass your practical exam , you will receive a form from the examiner with which you can go directly to the municipality to apply for your driving license. To apply for the driving license, you need a valid passport photo. The passport photo must meet the requirements for the driving license. Within a few days after your application, you can pick up your driving license at the municipality.

If you fail , you will receive feedback from the examiner on the parts you need to improve. These parts will then be practiced during the extra driving lessons. You can retake your practical exam after a certain period (usually 2 months).
